the VC Reporter is having a writing contest: Fiction 101... a story in 101 words or less.

Have been batting around an idea for a couple of months now, but it was more novelistic ... but thinking about using the conclusion of it for this contest.

In the middle of the night, an idea struck me: a sonnet has around 100 words... if I could write the story as a sonnet, a real experiment, it would--by its very constraints--force me to hone my language. While the contest accepts no poetry, I could then loosen the chains that bound the piece for 100 words... it's not going to be easy...
